About Dimitra Robokos, Ed.M., M.Phil., Ph.D.

Dr. Dimitra Robokos is a NYS and NJ licensed psychologist who started her private practice in 2008. With her previous work in education and as a clinician, she has over 30 years of combined experience. She is also a NYS Certified School Psychologist and a NYS Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She is an international leader in child development, with extensive experience in evaluating and treating children from infancy through adolescence and young adulthood. Dr. Robokos is trilingual in English, Spanish, and Greek, and she often conducts bilingual evaluations as needed.

With a Ph.D. in School Psychology (Neuroscience and Education track) from Columbia University and two Master’s degrees—one in Education and another in Philosophy—from the same institution, Dr. Robokos continued to expand her training and expertise as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine for the past approximately 20 years. At the Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center, she was mentored by some of the most outstanding and renowned doctors and clinicians. She has also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at her alma mater Teachers College, Columbia University. During her undergraduate studies at Pace University, she earned a dual Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and English Literature, with a minor in Spanish.

Dr. Robokos’ practice is well-established in the surrounding tri-state area, as well as internationally, for her work with children, adolescents, and young adults. She helps people facing anxiety, stress at school, or other learning and neurological or neurodevelopmental differences. She has worked for over three decades with children on the Autism Spectrum and is regarded as an expert in treating and evaluating children with developmental, learning, and neurological differences. Dr. Robokos’ approach is comprehensive, specific to each person, and team-oriented, meaning she consistently collaborates with providers such as educators, clinicians, and medical specialists who treat the same child. Her advocacy in IEP meetings and her role as an expert witness in legal hearings are keen in supporting the needs of all children, teens, and young adults.

In addition to her work with children and families in the United States, Dr. Robokos has had meaningful and impactful experiences in ongoing international work as well. For example, early in her work, she was committed to implementing programs at UNICEF that promoted early intervention in developing countries around the world. Working and residing at the International House in NYC, she had the opportunity to meet with world leaders and inform them on best practices for children’s health and developmental outcomes. In her second home country of Greece, she has been involved in numerous lectures, advocacy efforts, leadership organizations, and conferences to support clinicians and educators in their clinical work with children. She often works with families and clinicians from countries around the world to assist in the care of their children, either via evaluations or intervention supports.

Bridging her expertise with her base in New York, Dr. Robokos has taken on various roles as an educator, presenter, researcher, professor, and clinician. Her background includes a strong commitment to serving underprivileged youth, children, and families, as well as working with children who have varying degrees of special needs or learning differences, those requiring strong advocacy, and families in need of support due to various life changes or stressors. Her extensive experience as an Applied Behavior Analysis trainer and educator is notable, particularly her work in schools and consulting with private, public, special education, therapeutic, and boarding schools in the tri-state area and beyond. Her dedication to the families and children she cares for is exceptional, and she is passionate about providing support and guidance. Dr. Robokos shares great enthusiasm, care, and utmost dedication in her work. Always applying empathy with a strong foundation in science and evidence-based practice, Dr. Robokos witnesses the positive changes in the people she helps toward greater health, growth, and well-being.

Media and Public Speaking Collaborations

Dr. Robokos is often requested to collaborate with media, book publishing, and technology companies to share her expertise in areas such as developing children’s books, new educational and health apps, and providing information to television, news, radio, and other platforms.

She has provided clinical feedback for Justice Sonia Sotomayor's children's book Just Ask: Be Different, Be Brave, Be You. Additionally, she collaborated on supplying expert insights on child development for a project involving children’s mental health via Amazon's Alexa. She has been asked to write book segments, and a recent topic was telehealth from the perspective of a practicing clinician. She has offered editing advice for professional books on special needs, given feedback on research projects related to child development and education, and provided targeted consultations with professionals in various organizations.

Additionally, Dr. Robokos regularly speaks at schools and presents topics at grand rounds at medical institutions and other professional organizations.
